Urban Law Internship



UNHabitat’s work on Urban Law
operates on several levels:
·        
Developing programmes among UNHabitat
branches and offices, as well as other partners, to deliver integrated packages
of assistance for urban development.
·        
The development of innovative
approaches, tools and methodologies to particular problems in urban law reform.
·        
The creation and sharing of
information about urban law.

The UNHabitat Urban Law internship is
for 6 months.



The Internship is UNPAID and
fulltime.
Interns work five days per week (35
hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to
which they are assigned.
Daily responsibilities will depend on
the individual’s background; the intern’s assigned office as well as the
internship period.

Under the direct supervision of the
Human Settlement Officer (Urban Legislation Unit), the intern will:
·        
Assist in carrying out research and
studies on a range of urban legal topics.
·        
Analyze and present the data gathered
from diverse sources.
·        
Contribute to written outputs e.g.
draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies and inputs
to publications.
·        
Assist in the population and
maintaining of UrbanLex database.
·        
Review and produce summaries on
existing courses in urban law to support the Unit’s effort to produce training
packages on urban law for local authorities.
·        
Assist with the production of
communication materials and updates for the Unit’s websites.
·        
Assist in organizing expert group
meetings, consultative and other meetings and conferences; support outreach
activities.
·        
Perform any other duties as may be
required.
·

Be enrolled in a graduate school
programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
·        
Be enrolled in the final academic
year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or
equivalent).

Have graduated with a university
degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a oneyear period
of graduation.
·        
Be computer literate in standard
software applications.
·        
Have demonstrated keen interest in
the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of
the Charter.
·        
Have a demonstrated ability to
successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and
beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of
differing opinions and views.
Preferred Areas of Study: Studies in Law, International Diplomacy, Public
Relations and Public Policy

internship is for 6 months.
The Internship is UNPAID and
full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35
hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to

Under the direct supervision of the
Chief, Global Urban Observatory, the intern will:

Participate in collection,
computation and analysis of human settlements Sustainable Development Goal
Indicators and New Urban Agenda Indicators and other urban indicators.
·        
Participate in collection,
computation and analysis of City Prosperity Index Indicators for various
cities.
·        
Assist with logistics of meetings
organized by the Global Urban Observatory Unit.
·

Unit (RMPU) is one of the three units in the Urban Planning and Design Branch,
along with the City Planning, Extension and Design Unit, and the Climate Change
Planning Unit.
The (UN-Habitat Regional and Metropolitan

Under the Supervision of Programme
Officer the intern will:

Review introductory materials of the
RMPU portfolio and research on contemporary topics related to Regional and
Metropolitan Planning in the context of sustainable urbanization and the
implementation of the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
·        
Assist in developing tools (e.g.
Mobile and internet application), on Urban Policies, Regional and Metropolitan
Planning.
·        
Assist in the development of spatial
analysis (e.g. System of cities, demonstration projects).
·        
Support the development of frameworks
and guidelines, policy documents, and/or concept notes.
·        
Assist in identifying research gaps
and undertake activities, with the collaboration of research institutions, to
fill any identified gaps in order to augment the Unit’s portfolio.
·        
Assist in developing and implementing
the RMPU work plan monitoring system, monitoring key indicators and
following-up with partners on their reporting and feedback, including with
country and regional offices.
·        
Assist in planning, preparing and
implementing RMPU related events (meetings, workshops, conferences, Expert
Group Meetings, etc.) and support the implementation of specific
recommendations arising from these events.
·        
Assist in the design of training
programs and materials related to the RMPU work plan, including through the
identification of training needs and demands from key national and local
stakeholders.
·        
Assist with outreach activities and
the production of awareness materials that will support the rolling out of the
RMPU work plan
·        
Perform other tasks relevant to the
