Directly accountable to the VP Financial Services and working closely with the members of C-SUITE  & Head of Departments. We are seeking a talented analytics professional who thrives at the intersection of data, human behavior, marketing, product, and engineering. The individual will have a strong technical and analytical background, as well as an intense hunger to make a significant business impact by owning and driving business outcomes.

You will be responsible for:

  • Develop and deploy solutions using data analysis, data mining, optimization tools, machine learning techniques and statistics.
  • Identifying and making recommendations to our stakeholders so that they can apply these insights to positively impact our overall business.
  • Demonstrated success presenting complex research data in a clear and compelling manner that inspires action.
  • Build statistical forecasting models and frameworks to support operations planning.
  • Research and utilize advanced sampling and modeling techniques to enhance modeling results
  • Provide analytical results to support strategic business decisions and the formulation of such decisions
  • Produce data visualization such as charts, infographics, and dashboards to communicate findings and actionable recommendations to internal stakeholders clearly and effectively

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Financial Economics or other related fields.
  • In-depth knowledge of statistical and machine learning models: logistic regression.

About the Role

The job entails working together with the Financial Services team to implement collection strategies, ensure proper  reconciliation of accounts,  visit customers to validate concerns, give feedback & proposals on how to better improve collections, and propose measures on how to reduce fraud on a continual basis.

What you will do

  • Actively participate in AR management by 
    • Generating & reviewing  aged debtors balances and thereafter creating action plans or undertake follow ups on a daily basis
    • Following up on the already  identified AR problem areas and getting proactive feedback from the product  and Technical team.
    • Send reconciled statements, invoices and delivery notes to  customers upon requests
    • Timely and effective collection of all debts through customer visit, calls and SMS(s)
  • Actively participate in the implementation of collection and financial services policies such as;
    • Properly authenticating, categorizing, escalating and follow-up for timely resolution of issues experienced by clients.
    • Visiting customers to authenticate claims purported to interfere with repayment patterns and offer solutions.
    • Continuosly educate the clients  on  the interest charges and penalties  relating to overdue debts.
    • Accurately filling in weekly/monthly reports pertaining to collections and communicating observations for review
    • Daily updating and maintaining the financial services collections trackers
  • Identify  customers’ or partners  needs, clarify information, research every issue and provide solutions and/or alternatives
  • Resolve customer,partners, salesforce  complaints  through consultation with Tech and other departments within an acceptable turnaround time
  • Any other tasks assigned by  management

About you

  • High school certificate, bachelor’s degree in business related course is a plus.
  • Working knowledge & expertise of credit policies such as KYC policies, Debt collection policies, AR mgt.
  • Proven experience in a company within the same field.
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel.

About the career opportunity:

Directly working with the VP Financial Services, members of C-SUITE, Head of Departments & Strategic partners you will be responsible for applying an advanced level of Collections, Financial Hardship, Payment solutions and Debt Recovery expertise. You will supervise members of the collection teams based in different Pan-African countries in order to meet overall organizational goals and objectives across.

What you will do

  • Spearhead in the formulation of specific collection objectives and continuously improving all aspects of credit & collection functions and processes.
  • Should be strong in debt collection core levers and operations, and hungry to dive into leveraging that knowledge to execute and deliver on existing and future strategies.
  • In addition to managing individual and team performance metrics, the Collections Manager will also execute and contribute to strategies for the Collections team to meet and sustain performance to hit the company’s portfolio targets.
  • Use credit management skills, a high degree of problem solving, knowledge and experience in the management of delinquency trends, recoveries and write-offs.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and training to develop personnel and ensure the transference of skills and efficient achievement of goals and objectives to the immediate collections team.
  • Project relevant trends that affect the collectables of the non-performing portfolio and isolate potential problem areas.
  • Manage multiple concurrent priorities spanning projects and initiatives.
  • Be responsible for observing regulatory changes within the FMCG space particularly those that touch on credit products and ensuring the business is properly aligned.
  • Review and develop policies, systems, processes and develop reports as requested by C-SUITE
  • Work with cross-functional teams such as product in defining payment systems, and collections systems.
  • Maintain fluency in product knowledge, management of credit algorithms and collections procedures.

What you should have

  • Masters in a Business Related field or Business-related degree
  • A credit industry qualification is a plus.
  • 7+ years of experience in credit with an affinity to the FMCG sector in multiple Pan-African countries
  • 5+  years in a supervisory/people management role in multiple Pan-African countries
  • Extensive knowledge of department processes.
  • Strong specialist people leadership experience with an ability to lead, influence and manage change
  • Must have significant experience in a Collections management role in financial services
  • Demonstrated capability in setting, monitoring and changing collections strategies.
  • Solution focused, with demonstrated ability to apply strategic thinking, problem-solving & implement new ways of working.
  • Demonstrated experience working with risk appetite and policy settings.
  • Strong attention to detail and strong decision-making skills.
  • An advanced level of knowledge and application of legislation and codes that apply to collections.

You will be responsible for:

 Analyzing credit information

  • Work with Senior Credit Analysts and VP of Financial Services  to formulate, investigate and answer key credit questions and provide quality analysis to inform management on the customer, product and performance of the credit portfolio.
  • Serve as a Key point of contact for debt fundraising and investor due diligence in Kenya.
  • Contribute to the development of reports to key stakeholders including senior management, the board of directors and investors, including graphical analysis, presentations and verbal and written communications
  • Stay up to date on the latest risk related news and trends across the financial services industry, markets,politics etc to anticipate potential impact(s) on Sendy Kenya, our loans, and AR position.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of credit and financial models to be used by the business, including but not limited to bad debt modeling, debt collection processes and credit score modeling.

Departmental collaborations

  • Liaise with other departments to ensure that actions are appropriately carried out to execute on key initiatives to drive improved credit performance, reduce risk and improve accountability.
  • Collaborate with our collections team and incorporate insights and suggestions and necessary changes as observed with customers trends.
  • Working in collaboration with the SCA to prepare reports on the performance of the different credit options/strategies being used by the Financial Services Team and their effectiveness in ensuring minimal risk exposure.
  • Formulate a world-class in-house credit cycle from evaluation, administration and collections to ensure efficiency, security and fraud control throughout the entire cycle.
  • Lead and manage all AR activities, procedures, monitoring standards, reporting, etc with the ARs in Sendy Kenya.

Business unit policies

  • Periodically review and update the department’s policies to fit the market changes.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Management.

  • Degree in Business, Mathematical or Statistics or related fields.
  • Proven Experience with SQL, Microsoft Power BI.
  • Worked in or with a team of data science for Credit scoring models.
  • Data analytics skills and  financial modeling.
  • At least 2 years experience in risk management and financial analysis in the financial space.
  • Up to date with legal, compliance and market risk-related issues.
  • Should be a self-starter, take initiative, work collaboratively, and can self-manage in ambiguity.
  • Proven working experience as a credit analyst.
