Cavina School, a British-system preparatory school in Nairobi teaching the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum, seeks a part-time interdisciplinary ancient and modern drama teacher to work two days a week at the school.
You will be a key part of our efforts to introduce more project-based learning into the curriculum at Cavina. You will work closely with the English, history and Classics department to deliver syllabus-focused teaching through drama. You will stage a variety of smaller and larger productions throughout the year, both to enhance learning in these departments and to deepen theatrical skills among the pupil body.
You will work with the Classics department to stage a production written by one of the Greek or Roman playwrights each year and look to find other ways of dramatizing English set texts or bringing aspects of British and world history to life.
You will also be required to coach games after school two days a week.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate MUST have the following qualifications:
– Bachelor of Arts degree, preferably in English, history or Classics
– PGCE or equivalent
– A proven record in teaching drama and staging major productions at a British-curriculum school
– A-level or equivalent in English and history.
– Past experience in teaching the history or English Common Entrance curriculum is essential
– GCSE or equivalent in Latin or Greek.
Although not essential, preference will be given to candidates who can show experience in the following areas:
– Coaching rugby and/or cricket
SALARY AND RENUMERATION
A competitive part-time salary will be offered. There may be the opportunity for the role to become full-time in the future.
